blog

Chitwan, Sept 16: Fleeing of convicts related to one-horned rhino poaching cases from the Chitwan Prison has increased challenges to the conservation efforts.

Among 48 prisoners related to the rhino cases in the prison, only 26 have returned so far.

Out of those fleeing from the prison on September 10, a total of 409 have returned so far. It is shared that 26 of them are related to the rhino case.

There were a total of 744 prisoners in the prison. All others had escaped except the two.

Prison chief Rabindra Prasad Dhungana informed that the prison administration has contacted all of them for return. Among them, 60 are not in touch. After the prisoners convicted in rhino related cases escaped, the Chitwan National Park has tightened security arrangement.

According to information officer Avinash Thapa Magar, a list of the escapees has been prepared and monitoring in the area has been increased.

The park has taken the fleeing of inmates related to rhino smuggling seriously as a security challenge.  (RSS)
