Prohibitory order in Siraha relaxed for Jitiya festival
Siraha, Sept 12: The District Administration Office, Siraha has temporarily relaxed the prohibitory order for three hours daily in view of Jitiya, a cultural festival especially observed by women of the Mithila region and the Tharu community.
Chief District Officer Basanta Adhikari confirmed that although a seven-hour prohibitory order remains in effect for public safety, it will be eased daily from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm for a few days. During this period, local markets (hat bazars) and shops will be allowed running.
According to Section Officer Santosh Raya of the Area Police Administration Office, weekly markets and shops at Lahan would remain open in the allotted period.
The public is urged to visit the markets in an orderly manner and return home promptly afterward. Any unlawful activities, including looting or disturbances, will be strictly punishable under the law.
Jitiya is observed on Asoj Krishna Paksha Ashtami (the eighth day of the waning moon in the month of Ashoj). Devotees, particularly women, observe a rigorous 24-hour fast, often without even drinking water, wishing for the good health and longevity of their children. This year, the festival falls on Sunday, September 14. (RSS)
