Kathmandu, Sept. 12: Nepal Police has issued a nationwide appeal urging escaped inmates and detainees to immediately report to the nearest security authority.

During the violent unrest and arson triggered by the Gen Z Movement on September 8 and 9, dozens of prisoners managed to flee from various correctional facilities across the country.

In a public notice released on Thursday, the Nepal Police Headquarters called upon all individuals who absconded following the vandalism and arson attacks at prisons and police offices to re-establish contact with security agencies without delay.

The notice states, “In the aftermath of the demonstrations that erupted nationwide on September 8 and 9, several detainees under investigation and convicted prisoners serving court-issued sentences escaped custody following the destruction and arson of multiple police and prison facilities. All such fugitives are hereby requested to present themselves at their respective District Police Offices, local police units, or other nearby security agencies at the earliest.”

Authorities have further warned that failure to comply may invite additional legal consequences. Police, however, emphasised that those who voluntarily surrender will be safeguarded from further punitive measures and their cooperation will be taken into consideration during ongoing investigations.
