Humla, Sept. 11: Six teams have been mobilised in all seven rural municipalities of Humla district to collect details for the National Identity Card (NID). The campaign has been launched especially to resolve the issue faced by senior citizens who are required to open bank accounts to receive their social security allowance, for which the NID has been made compulsory.

The District Administration Office (DAO) aims to complete the collection of data entry before the Dashain festival.

According to Chief District Officer Tekraj Regmi, although the service is intended for all applicants, special priority has been given to those receiving social security allowance.

The rural municipalities where the teams have been deployed are Namkha, Simkot, Kharpunath, Sarkegad, Chankheli and Adanchuli. Two to three skilled technical staff have been mobilised in each of these municipalities. Of these, ten staff have been sent by the provincial government, while four have been assigned from the DAO.

CDO Regmi informed that the teams assigned for the NID will operate mobile camps at ward level wherever possible. Work began earlier in Chankheli, Adanchuli, Sarkegad, Kharpunath and Namkha rural municipalities while in Simkot, the work started on Wednesday in 1, 2 and 3 wards, and will soon begin in 7 and 8 as  well.

Since the NID has been made mandatory to open bank accounts for social security allowance beneficiaries, the teams have been mobilised with the aim of completing the task across all municipalities before Dashain.

Without the card, beneficiaries will not be able to receive the first quarterly instalment of this year’s allowance. Therefore, this work is being expedited to ensure the payment can be deposited into their bank accounts on time.

Of 53,884 population in Humla, a total of 10,673 people have so far registered for the NID. Of these, 2,356 cards have reached the DAO, and 1,007 people have already collected their cards.

Likewise, the process has already been completed in Tanjakot Rural Municipality. Coordination will be carried out with all rural municipalities and wards to complete the work.
