Kathmandu, Sept 10: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged all sides concerned to help bring the situation to normalcy.

Commission spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel mentioned in a press release that during this time of crisis, a positive and active role from all state bodies and citizens is necessary to normalize the situation, and therefore, the NHRC has called upon everyone to play their part.

The NHRC emphasized that the country must quickly find a political resolution to the current ambiguity. "There can only be democracy as an alternative to democracy," the NHRC firmly states. Therefore, by further strengthening and securing the rights of the people, the country must quickly find a political resolution to the current dilemma through democratic means and processes," the NHRC said.

In the context of the country being in a precarious situation, the commission also urged all parties to exercise restraint.

"It is natural for everyone to be concerned about the unfortunate events that have caused significant loss to the country's people and property due to the violent acts, arson, and vandalism that occurred over the past two days.

The NHRC calls upon everyone to refrain from any violent actions, assuring that such incidents will not happen again." The NHRC has emphasized that all parties involved need to contemplate their responsibilities towards the country and the people, and it is essential to move forward from the current state of uncertainty, adding that the NHRC is always ready to play its necessary role in this regard."

Spokesperson Pokharel further mentioned that the commission has continued to monitor the demonstrations of the Gen Z demonstrations held on September 9 and 10 in various parts of the country, including Kathmandu.

He informed that the NHRC is still continuing its efforts today to understand the overall human rights situation and the conditions of the families of the deceased and the injured during the curfew imposed after the two-day demonstrations that took place in various cities of the country.(RSS)
