By Hari Krishna Sharma, Muktinath (Mustang), Aug.13: The Chhusang-Korala road under the Kaligandaki Corridor, the lifeline of Gandaki Province connecting Upper Mustang, has been completely blocked due to flooding.
Police Inspector of the District Police Office, Mustang, Bikash Khatri, said that the direct road connection has been cut off due to a flood, including landslide debris in the Tangbe stream in Chhusang, Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality -3, along the road section from Kagbeni to Upper Mustang via the district headquarters, Jomsom.
Khatri said, "The road in this area has been blocked multiple times. Travelers face hassle even during normal rainfall, as floods occur even during normal rainfall."
The road blocked by the floods is considered the gateway to Upper Mustang.
The concerned project has been informed to clear the blocked road.
Vehicles traveling from Upper Mustang to the lower area have been stopped at the road section.
Lately, floods in the Kagkhola and Tangbe rivers under Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality and dry landslides in the surrounding areas have disrupted the road network connecting the upper areas.
The locals of Lo Ghekar Damodarkunda and Lomanthang rural municipalities in Upper Mustang faced problems due to the road blockage.
Along with the rain, road blockage has been observed on rural roads in Thasang, Gharpajhong, and Varagung Muktikshetra rural municipalities. In recent years, Mustang has also started receiving regular rains.
