Karnali, Aug 8: Karnali Province is at work to promote a campaign that discourages use of chemical fertilizers in farming.
The province has claimed that its soil and water are appropriate for the crop systems that thrive even with the use of compost.
The province government had taken a decision to this regard since 2075BS.
Minister for Agriculture, Binod Kumar Shah, informed that the ministry had been working actively for seven years for the promotion of organic farming. It has distributed organic materials, stressed production of bio pesticides and made aware the public on harms caused by the chemical pesticides. Even the programmes are run for farmers' schools with financial and technical assistance.
In this regard, a training was organized by the Embassy of Thailand in Nepal in collaboration of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on organic farming in Birendranagar, Surkhet. The 5-day international level training focused on increase in production of non-chemical farming, workforce management, marketing of products, and its sustainability.
In the concluding day of the event, the officiating chief of Thai mission in Nepal, Mansuvid Manasakul, viewed the training held jointly by the Thai Embassy, Nepal government and FAO would further strengthen Thai-Nepal ties. It would pave a way for further collaboration and friendship.
In his view, organic farming not only makes agriculture sustainable but also ensures food security and elevates people's livelihood. The harmony with environment also promotes sustained practices. It is said Thailand's agriculture and agricultural processing are exemplary to world.
Moreover, Minister Shah shared that it was not easy to organise the international level of event in Karnali. However, it was really an achievement to realize it this time, he viewed.
The blend of theoretical and practical knowledge is essential for promoting agricultures.
The five-day training was attended by government employees, agriculture, traders and aggravates operators.(RSS)
