Myagdi, June 26: Beni Municipality - 6, Jamunakharka, Myagdi's Ashok Shahi is becoming successful in commercial hornet farming on his field of Rahuwada.
Shahi informed that he started commercial farming, bringing 11 nests of hornets from the nearby forest.
The Shahi couple started commercial hornet farming on the land which was prepared for chilli farming at Rahuwada and Jamunakharka's house's front porch.
"As per the planning of starting a new business, we succeeded in starting hornet farming last year." Shahi's wife, Geeta, said, "It became a way of hornet conservation and a source of income by transferring nests the same like honeybees."
Shahi informed that from one nest up to eight kg of hornet larvae can be collected every two months. He said that he brings a hornet nest after pulling it, wearing a safety belt.
The Shahi couple experienced that 75 per cent hornets stayed after bringing them to the home. "Hotels of Beni sell dishes of hornet larvae. Uncooked larvae cost Rs 3,500 per KG." He said.
Shahi couple sold 30 kg of hornet larvae, whereas this year they have a target to sell up to 100 kg.
Fry hornet larvae is taken as the source of energy, which sells for Rs 600 per plate, said the hotel owner of Beni Rajan Lama. (Translated from RSS)
