Eggs price increased

Chitwan, June 25: The price of eggs has been increased.

The Nepal Layers Poultry Breeders Association has fixed the support price to be implemented from today. Accordingly, the farm price in Chitwan has been set at Rs. 480 per crate large size eggs and Rs. 450 for medium size eggs. This is an increase by Rs. 30 per crate or 30 eggs.

President of the Association Binod Pokharel said that the price has been increased due to low production and high demand. Four months ago, 40,000 cartons of eggs were produced daily, but now it has dropped to 28,000 to 30,000 cartons. 

According to Dr Ananta Dahal, associate professor at the Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), Rampur, egg production has decreased due to increasing temperature that prompts the eggs laying chickens to eat less feed. The production has decreased by about 25 percent. 

Furthermore, diseases are common in this season and when humidity increases due to rain the heat stress on chickens increases, which reduces production.

Meanwhile, Head of the National Poultry Disease Research Laboratory, Bharatpur, Dr. Bijay Kumar Shrestha, said samples brought here from Chitwan and surrounding districts have shown H9 (or H9N2) disease in 50 poultry farms. (RSS)
