Man Bahadur Gurung wins Lamjung Lok Tara

By Our Correspondent,Lamjung, June 10: Man Bahadur Gurung (Ranjit), a young singer from Lamjung, has been declared Lamjung Lok Tara 2082. 

A resident of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality–5, Gurung, won the title by surpassing 34 contestants in the first-ever Lamjung Lok Tara 2082 competition, which concluded on Saturday in Besisahar.

Organised by the 'Rastriya Lok Tatha Dohori Geet Pratisthan', Lamjung, with the aim of preserving folk music and discovering new talent, the solo folk singing competition awarded second place to Yukesh Pariyar of Shrimanjyang, Dordi Rural Municipality–3. 

Similarly, Bishal Sunar of Besisahar–11, secured third place, informed Anuj Adhikari, President of the Academy.

In the competition, Hasta Century and Ashmaya BK from Ghanpokhara, Marsyangdi–2, received consolation prizes. The contest was conducted in three phases. Seventeen contestants were selected from the first round, and the final round featured eight finalists.

The winners of the first, second, and third positions received cash prizes of Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000, and Rs. 10,000, respectively, along with trophies, medals and certificates. The two consolation prize winners were awarded Rs. 5,000 each, along with trophies and certificates.

The prizes were distributed by Rita Thapa Magar, Central President of the Academy, senior folk singer Maya Gurung, Central Secretary Shankar Birahi Gurung, District President Anuj Adhikaria and event sponsors.

President Anuj Adhikari also announced that the first and second-place winners will represent Lamjung in the First Gandaki Lok Tara 2082, on the occasion of World Music Day.
