June 8: The active COVID-19 cases in India have crossed the 6,000 mark after seeing a nearly 400 surge in positive reports. Currently, there are 6,133 active COVID-19 cases in India, with 65 deaths reported so far. Kerala reports the highest number of cases as it becomes the first state to come close to the 2000 mark alone.

COVID-19 cases in Gujarat have seen a steep uptick, as it comes after Kerala in the state-wise case load. Experiencing a sudden surge of 105 cases between June 7 and June 8, the state has more than 820 active COVID-19 cases. Similarly, for Kerala, a rise of 144 cases in 24 hours signals the high transmissibility of the COVID-19 variant JN.1. The protein mutations NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 are known for their communicability but mild symptoms.
