Two children dies of drowning

Jhapa, June 7: Two children died this morning after drowning in a pond located within the Namuna Community Forest in Arjunadhara Municipality-11.

The deceased have been identified as 12-year-old Hussain Gurung and 10-year-old Sujal Gurung, both from Jirikhimti, Terhathum, who were guests at the house of Purna Bahadur Rai of Arjundhara-11, said Khagendra Khadka, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Jhapa.

Both children had gone swimming in a pond inside a community forest at 8 am this morning.

They were rescued and taken to B&C Hospital in Birtamod for treatment after locals realized that they had drowned in the pond

Khadka, Information Officer at the District Police Office, said that doctors at the hospital declared both children dead at around 8:30 AM today.

The bodies of both children have been kept at the hospital.
