By Nabin Raj Kuinkel,Lamjung, June 7: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Marsyangdi Rural Municipality in Lamjung has launched a 'Clean Marsyangdi Campaign.'
The campaign aims to make the rural municipality a model in sanitation by conducting a coordinated cleanliness drive across the entire municipality.
According to Arjun Gurung, Chairperson of the municipality, from June 3, 2025, local representatives, community development organisations, mothers’ groups, youth clubs and schools in all wards have jointly carried out the clean-up campaign.
As part of the four-day campaign, on the first day, on June 3, interaction programmes on sanitation were held in all nine wards. Likewise, awareness programmes with public announcements were conducted on the second day, on June 4.
Similarly, on the third day, June 5, clean-up activities were carried out in all areas by local organisations, schools, ward offices, the rural municipality office and other institutions and monitoring of the clean-up campaign wwas conducted on the final day on Friday.
Vice-chairperson of the rural municipality, Juna Maya Thapa, said that the Clean Marsyangdi Campaign has been running for the past four years. Since much of the rural municipality falls within a tourist area, the campaign has been effective in maintaining a clean, green and healthy environment.
Chief Administrative Officer Arjun Chapai said that the municipality regularly collects and manages waste from all settlements using municipal tractors. He added that plans include waste segregation, separating biodegradable from non-biodegradable waste, and promoting the reuse of recyclable materials.
Locals have shown strong support for the campaign. Roads, taps, bridges, public areas and schools in villages and communities across the municipality have been cleaned.
Ram Gurung from Ghanpokhara-2 said that villagers have been actively involved in the clean-up for the past three days as part of the campaign.
