Home Minister asks Armed Police Force to get ready for disaster management

Kathmandu, June 2: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has directed the concerned units of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, Nepal for their immediate mobilization as per the early warning on monsoon-induced disasters.

Taking stock of the disaster preparedness of the Armed Police Force, Nepal today, the Home Minister asked the police units to get ready before the onset of monsoon. "The Armed Police Force, Nepal has been assigned with the responsibility of disaster management," he said.

He also asked the Armed Police Force, Nepal to work for monsoon-induced disaster preparedness from today itself adding that the Armed Police Force, Nepal should get ready to tackle both predicted and unpredicted disasters.   

Lekhak said that the vulnerable settlements should be given timely information and immediate rescue after the disaster to shift the affected ones in the safe place should be prepared.

Similarly, the Home Minister suggested that the Armed Police Force, Nepal should work in coordination with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and asked to open a branch of National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC). The personnel of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal and Nepali Army should work by staying in the NEOC, he added. 

Stating that this year excessive rainfall is predicted than the previous years, the Home Minister argued that our preparedness should in the same scale.  

Vehicles in the nighttime should be prevented from running in the more vulnerable zones and the personnel should get deployed round the clock and there should not be any shortcomings on the part of the Armed Police Force, Nepal, according to the Home Minister. (RSS)
