PM Oli congratulates table tennis players

Kathmandu, May 18: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has congratulated the medal-winning players of the South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship.

At programme organized today at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar, he congratulated the promising young players and wished them success in winning in the global competition by working hard with high morale.

Nepal clinched 12 medals including one gold, six silver, and five bronze in the Championship organized by the All Nepal Table Tennis Association in Kathmandu from April 24 to 27.

In the U-19 boys' team event of the competition, Nepal's team of Prabesh Basnet, Gananjay Dahal, Himal Bisht, and Rubin Maharjan secured the gold medal.

On the occasion, PM Oli had the winners and participants play table tennis, observing them and also played with them for a while to encourage the players.

Moreover, he provided 'surprise' cash prizes to the best and participating players from his side. (RSS)

The Vice President of the Association, Purna Shankar Shrestha, expressed confidence that table tennis would bring good results for the country in the future as it has received affection from the prime minister level for the first time.

The Secretary of the Federation and the team manager of the South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship, Rajendra Bahadur Dulal, urged the government to help end the situation where parents of players have to pay fees themselves when participating in international table tennis competitions.
