Migration from Sundarbazar increases this year

blog

Sundarbazar (Lamjung), May 8: Migration from the Sundarbazar Municipality in the district has been on the rise recently.

According to local administration data, a total of 198 people from 72 families obtained migration certificates in the first nine months of the current fiscal year (July 16, 2024 to April 12, 2025).

This is a significant increase compared to the previous fiscal year, when only 93 people from 28 families migrated.

Similarly, immigration into the municipality has also increased in the current fiscal year, (2081-82 BS/ 2025-26) with 120 people from 39 families relocating here. Last year, only 27 people from 13 families moved into the area.

Sundarbazar Municipality, which comprises 11 wards, is witnessing rapid urbanization in some wards, while others remain rural and remote. Rural-urban migration has been particularly noticeable in recent times, although migration to major towns from Sundarbazar is relatively low.

In the current fiscal year, the highest number of migrants (41 people from 14 families) came from Sundarbazar-3, while the lowest number (six people from two families) migrated from Ward No. 5.

Education opportunities, health services, employment, and investment have been cited as the main factors driving the increase in migration.

To mitigate the outflow, local authorities should prioritize creating job opportunities, establishing technical schools, and fostering an investment-friendly atmosphere to retain residents and discourage further migration, advised Officiating Chief Administrative Officer Bibek Kumar Pandit.(RSS)
