BY SANTOSH SUBEDI,Kaski, Apr. 28: Preparations are underway to introduce a distinct logo (badge) for the Chief Minister and nine ministers of the Gandaki Province. To facilitate the design process, the Ministry of Social Development, Youth and Sports has issued a call for proposals to design the official logo for the members of the Council of Ministers.

On April 17, Minister for Social Development and Health Bindu Kumar Thapa decided to design a new logo for the members of the Council of Ministers.

"As per the ministerial decision, it has become necessary to design a distinct logo representing the members of the Gandaki Province's Council of Ministers. Interested organisations, institutions, bodies and individuals are invited to submit their designs, including the specified size and subject matter, by April 27," the notice read.

The new logo is intended for the exclusive use by the members of the Council of Ministers. It will feature a silver base plated with a layer of gold. The logo will have a diameter of 30 millimetres and weigh 11.5 grams.

According to the notice issued by the Ministry’s Under Secretary Bhojraj Nyaupane, the logo must depict Gandaki Province within the map of Nepal. Additionally, it must include a flag and a stalk of wheat, with a backdrop showing the mountains of Gandaki Province, and the words ‘Gandaki Province Government, Council of Ministers’ must be attractively placed on the logo. The maker of the selected logo will be awarded a prize of Rs. 10,000.

During the first term, the Gandaki Province Assembly Secretariat had also called for designs for the Gandaki logo, offering a prize of Rs. 25,000. The current logo of the Provincial Assembly features an image of a man and a woman shaking hands. The border of the current logo is gold-coloured, with the rice stalks and the two hands also depicted in gold. Blue is used inside the logo, symbolising the sky. The words ‘Gandaki Province Assembly’ are written in golden letters against a grey background. The national flag of Nepal is placed above the geographical outline of Gandaki Province.

The current logo of the Gandaki Province Assembly has a diameter of 32 millimetres and a thickness of two millimetres. The cost of providing this logo to Provincial Assembly members is Rs. 13,277.50.

Over two terms, the Gandaki Province Assembly has changed its logo four times. During the first term, the Chief Minister, ministers and Provincial Assembly members used the same logo.
