By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 23: Singer Sangita Rana Pradhan is all set to perform at the musical series Paleti, which has been running since 2005.
She had first sung at Paleti back in 2007 and will now be performing again on April 25 and 26.
Sangita will bring classical music to the Paleti stage.
She is currently rehearsing with the Paleti ensemble, focusing on khayal, thumari, and some modern songs.
She is preparing to present khayal and thumari pieces in Nepali.
Returning to Paleti with a solo performance after 18 years.
She said, “I am thrilled to return to Paleti with a solo recital after such a long time. This stage has always delighted me, especially because it has given me opportunities to connect with the audience over the years. I often feel nostalgic remembering my collaboration with Shanti Thatal on this very platform.”
Composer Aabhash, who has been curating Paleti for the past 20 years, has collaborated with Sangita on some of the thumari compositions.
He said, “This Paleti will present a blend of classical and semi-classical music. The khayal and thumari pieces will be performed in the Nepali language. At Sangita’s request, I have adapted some thumri songs into Nepali.”
Sangita Pradhan is a seasoned vocalist in Nepali music. A graduate of Visva-Bharati University in Shantiniketan, where she formally studied classical music, she has also made her mark in modern and film music.
At Paleti, Sangita will voice the lyrics of veteran lyricists like Kali Prasad Rijal, Ratna Shamsher Thapa, Manjul, Nirmohi Byas, Aarti Newa, Manjit Tamang, and Aabhash.
The melodies for these lyrics were composed by respected musicians such as Natikaji, Shanti Thatal, Manbir Singh, Gurudev Kamat, Amrit Gurung, and Aabhash.
Paleti is held during the last weekend of every English calendar month.
