By Our Correspondent,Pokhara, Apr. 12: Grandmaster Tulsi Kumar Gurung, who recently achieved the highest rank in taekwondo, the ninth dan, has been honored by the Gandaki Province Taekwondo Association.
During a ceremony held in Pokhara on Friday, Gurung was felicitated with a khada, shawl, and copper plaque for his remarkable accomplishment.
Gurung, a resident of Pokhara-10, earned the prestigious rank in December after successfully passing practical and written examinations at the World Taekwondo Headquarters (Kukkiwon) located in Seoul, South Korea. He is the first Nepali athlete to achieve a rank above the eighth dan.
Speaking at the event, Gurung highlighted the significance of commitment and confidence in reaching his goals. He also acknowledged the unwavering support of his family and relatives throughout his journey.
Gurung, now 66, began his career in sports as a swimmer before transitioning to taekwondo.
He was honoured by Hareswar Pokharel, Vice Chairperson of the Nepal Taekwondo Association, and Jagan Gurung, Chairperson of the Gandaki Taekwondo Association.
