All parties should join hands to amend constitution

Kathmandu, April 7: Nepali Congress (NC) leader and former Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Surendra Raj Acharya, has said that some amendments were needed to the constitution and some issues should be settled after the adoption of federalism in the country.   

Talking to Sushil Darnal of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), the House of Representatives (HoR) Member and NC Lumbini Province Committee General Secretary, Acharya stated that all political parties should join hands together to amend the constitution since NC alone cannot perform this task.

"Country's Constitution, Acts and rules should be made to meet people's expectations. Several jobs have been impacted for lack of laws in the provinces. Disputes on the rights of federal, province and local governments have surfaced as necessary laws are not made," MP Acharya shared adding that development works have slowed due to lack of laws. 

"There are challenges in operation and transfer of civil servants and management of police administration," he viewed.   

Relevant changes in the constitution should be made and laws should be drafted by ensuring reforms in overall issues, according to Acharya. 

"Priority of the current government is also constitution's amendment. For this, the entire parliament should stand together," leader Acharya stated. 

"Corruption has plagued the country from the local level to the federal level. For this to end, good governance should be maintained. All three layers of government should work to ensure prompt service delivery by ending corruption," he observed.  

Lawmaker Acharya has admitted that public frustration was created due politicians' activities.

Regarding the recent protests and the activities of former king, the NC leader said people will remain calm if the country was run as per public aspirations and good governance was ensured by rising above the party interests. It will not benefit for long if the leaders were much concentrated on their party and cadres, he cautioned.

Lawmaker Acharya expressed his serious concerns to the rising trend of out-migration of youth in search of job, mostly in the gulf countries and some other countries of destination. He said that the exodus of youth could be reduced by creating job opportunities in the country.

Acharya suggested that reforms should be done in education and industries should be established in the country for job creation at home. 

Likewise, massive jobs could be created in tourism industry, he added.  (RSS)
