By Nabin Raj Kuinkel,Lamjung, Apr. 7: Government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said that former king Gyanendra Shah has breached the agreement made with political parties.

If anti-constitutional activities continue, the government will be compelled to take action, he warned.

Inaugurating the second ward-level Chairman Cup Football Tournament held in Singdi, Ward-5 of Kwholasothar Rural Municipality on Sunday, Minister Gurung said the former king has violated the agreement made with political parties, where he agreed to abide by the constitution and not interfere with the sovereign rights of the citizens.

“There was an agreement that the former queen mother would be allowed to reside in Narayanhiti, the former king in Nagarjun Palace, and that they would be given respect equivalent to a former president. In return, they had to abide by the constitution and not interfere with sovereign citizen’s rights,” said Minister Gurung.

“But the former king has violated and disrespected that agreement since February 19. This is unacceptable to us,” he added.

Recently, anti-system and anti-constitution elements have started to rise in the name of royalists, said Minister Gurung, adding, “All these activities were being tolerated by us as a democratic government. But in the name of royalists, paths of murder, violence, anarchy, and looting have been chosen.” “The government cannot remain a silent spectator to all such activities. Action will be taken, and that has already begun,” he added.

He urged all the citizens not to support such activities.

He also reiterated the government’s continuous commitment to protecting the federal democratic republic brought through the hard works and sacrifices of the Nepali people.

He said, “Whoever tries to violate the constitution, breach the law, or attack the rights of the people, will face strict action.”

He explained that the government is always committed to the nation’s interest, people’s welfare, federal democratic system, and the country’s prosperity.

He clarified that due to unstable governments in the past, the pace of development had arrested, the economy had collapsed, production was stalled, and the country was sliding downward, which is why major parties like Nepali Congress and CPN-UML had to come together to form a two-thirds majority government.

He said many problems have already been addressed in the eight months since the current government was formed.

He further said that the present government has begun leading the country on the right path and strengthening democracy. He added that the coalition government will continue until 2027 and remain committed to the country’s welfare and development.

He also committed to ensuring mobile connectivity and internet access across all areas of Lamjung in the coming fiscal year.
