Giri elected Press Center chairman

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Mar 31: Kamal Giri has been elected chairman of the Press Center Nepal (PCN).

The 5th General Convention of the PCN held from March 29-30 here elected Giri with 366 votes while his rival Deependra Rawal got 191 votes.

The voting for some key position including chairman, senior chairman, general secretary, deputy general secretary, secretary and treasurer was held on March 30 while some were elected unopposed.

Suresh Chandra Adhikari got 397 votes to get elected while his rival Sudip Bardewa got 111 votes.

Ramsingh Thagunna, Laxman Khadka and Bibek Gautam got elected unopposed as vice-chairmen in open category while Shanta Adhikari and Dipak Shrestha got elected as vice-chairmen in the woman and inclusive category.

Of 821 voters (organisers and representatives for general convention included), 551 had cast their votes as the election was held late at night, according to Govinda Acharya, the coordinator of the central election committee of the PCN.

Manoj Gharti Magar got elected as general secretary with 379 votes while his rival Deependra Sharma got 148 votes.


Gyan Prasad Paudel, Laxmi Acharya (in woman category), Haris BK (in dalit category), Anil Mishar (in Madhesi category) and Buddha Lopchan (in indigenous peoples category) got elected as the deputy general secretaries.

Surendra Chalise and Santosh Deuja got elected as secretary in open category while Anjali Thapa got elected to the same post in woman category and Avatar Rai in inclusive category.

From provincial committees of the PCN, 11 secretaries were elected unopposed that include Dipendra Kumar Rai (from Koshi), Nandalal Tiwari (from Associate), Sunita Baral (from Madhes), Min Kumar Dahal (from Bagmati), Deepak Bhattarai (from Gandaki), Mansingh BK (from Lumbini), Ganesh Kanchan Bharati (from Karnali), Rajendra Awasthi (from Sudurpaschim), Nawaraj Dhal (from Upatyaka) and Keshav Bhul (from Institutional).

Basanta Giri got elected as treasure with 335 votes against Dr. Dact Prasad Dhital who got 187 votes.

 The general convention also elected 78 central committee members of the PCN.
