75 police personnel and 35 protestors injured

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 30: Altogether 75 security personnel were injured when a protest by supporters of former king Gyanendra Shah in Tinkune area on Friday turned violent.

Issuing damage details of Friday's violent protest, the District Police Range, Kathmandu, on Saturday, has said that a total of 75 security personnel were injured, including 53 from the Nepal Police and 22 from the Armed Police Force.

Similarly, two persons, including a journalist, have died. Permission was obtained from the administration for the protest, which was coordinated by Navaraj Subedi and led by Durga Prasai, for a peaceful protest. However, the police say that the protesters engaged in reckless activities and vandalised and set fire to private property, hospitals, media houses, political party offices, and business centres.

The police have stated that they have arrested 51 protestors so far, promising to bring those involved in such illegal activities under the purview of investigation and take legal action. 

Among those arrested are RPP Vice President Rabindra Mishra and General Secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana. Police have also said that 35 protestors have been injured on Friday's clash.

The protesters have vandalised a total of 15 vehicles, including nine government vehicles, and have vandalised the Tinkune Annapurna Complex, Marble House, etc.

Similarly, the police station in Koteshwor, the traffic police station in Koteshwor, and the Unified Socialist Party office were vandalised. There was also looting in Bhatbhateni in Koteshwor, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Apil Raj Bohora, Spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu. 

Although Gyanendra's supporters demonstrated demanding the restoration of the monarchy, it turned violent.
