By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Mar. 14: The NTT DOCOMO, Colorbath Japan, and IGC Business Holding, in collaboration with the Thamel Tourism Development Board, organized a road cleanup programme at Thamel as part of their Clean Hero Project on the occasion of the Holi festival.
This initiative, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs), aims to promote better waste management and
environmental sustainability in Nepal.
During the event, representatives from the organizing companies shared
insights from their recent visit to the Sisdol landfill site, highlighting the
urgent need to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste to prevent
long-term environmental harm, according to the information provided by the
organisers.
Nepal is celebrated for its stunning natural landscapes and welcoming
people, but the growing issue of waste management poses a significant
challenge.
The Clean Hero Project not only involved cleaning up the streets of
Thamel but also focused on raising awareness about the importance of waste
separation, recycling, and environmental conservation. Volunteers, including
locals, tourists, and company representatives, actively participated in the
cleanup while engaging with the community to spread the message of
sustainability.
In addition to the cleanup efforts, the collaborating companies are
developing a mobile application to encourage waste separation and recycling.
The app, currently in its pilot phase, will connect households, restaurants,
hotels, and bars with waste collection companies, making it easier for them to
manage waste responsibly. This innovative solution aims to address Nepal’s
waste management challenges and promote a culture of recycling.
The Clean Hero Project is a collaborative effort to create a cleaner and greener Nepal. By inspiring individuals and businesses to take action, the organizers are setting an example for sustainable development. Their efforts align with global goals such as responsible consumption and production (SDG 12), sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), and climate action (SDG 13).
