'Republican forces should unite to safeguard constitution'

Kathmandu, March 11: Lawmakers have said that weak performance and working style of the government was responsible for the voices raised against the federal democratic republic system in the recent days.     

Speaking in today's House of Representatives (HoR) meeting, the leaders of the opposition parties argued that government's ineffectiveness on key issues was to blame for the pro-monarchy voices.     

Lawmaker Rajendra Prasad Pandey of CPN (Unified Socialist) Rajendra Prasad Pandey said the federal democratic republic was established from the struggle of the citizens and added that republican system is not a gift of a certain individual.     

Pandey, however, said that people frustration was on the rise to the system due to lack of good governance, institutional corruption and red-tapism.     

Lawmaker of Janata Samajwadi Party Ranju Kumari Jha said all democratic forces should unite to safeguard the constitution adding that the republican constitution was promulgated through the people's mandate.     

Likewise, lawmaker of Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan of Rastriya Prajatantra Party claimed that the current situation has exposed the government's poor performance.     

Also speaking in the HoR meeting, CPN (UML) lawmaker Gokarna Bista argued that people's freedom could not be strengthened without democracy and added that the ongoing efforts taken to reinstate dethroned monarchy has no relevance.     

"The efforts (to reinstate monarchy) are never acceptable for the democratic forces," Bista said.     

He said that the current activities were aimed at inviting anarchy and instability.     

Similarly, lawmaker Raj Kishor Yadav suggested that we should shift our working style to implement the democracy in the grassroots.     

Yadav appealed to the parties to move ahead by correcting their weaknesses.(RSS)
