By Our Correspondent,Tamghas, Mar. 11: Banana cultivation has been started in Gulmi, making good use of the land that has remained barren for years.

Bhagwati Agricultural Firm has started banana cultivation by taking 20 ropanis of land on lease that has been barren for years in Thukka Tole of Seugha in Resunga Municipality-4, said operator Jhabi Pandey.

He said that around 300 banana plants have been planted in the first phase with plans to expand gradually.

He said that he will expand the cultivation of local banana plants and encourage other farmers in the village in the agricultural occupation.

Pandey, who has been doing business as a wholesaler of food grains in Tamghas, has been engaged in agriculture in his village by utilising the free time.

Mayor of Resunga Municipality Khil Dhoj Panthi and Ward Chairman of Ward No. 4, Liladhar Acharya, conducted an on-site inspection of the banana cultivation being done on the barren land.

Mayor Panthi said that the municipality has been providing all possible support to farmers engaged in commercial agriculture.  He said that the municipality has been providing subsidies, equipment and technical assistance to farmers engaged in commercial agriculture and animal husbandry in the village.

He stressed the need of engaging youth in commercial agriculture and animal husbandry to retain them in their homeland and create self-employment.

There is a high demand for local varieties of bananas in the market. As banana is delicious to eat, their price is also good.
