225 kg of marijuana seized in Dharan

By Nisha Rai,Dharan, Mar. 7: Police in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City fired three rounds of bullets into the air and seized 225 kilograms of marijuana, arresting one smuggler in the action. 

Acting on a special tip-off about illegal drug smuggling of the narcotics, a police team from the Area Police Office Dharan, Ward Police Office, and the temporary police post in Jorsakhuwa was deployed to arrest the smugglers. 

On Thursday morning, the team intercepted porters carrying marijuana through an inner footpath in the forest while smuggling it from Bishnupaduka to Railway, Dharan-17 via Chimphule Khola in Dharan-20. 

When the police attempted to stop and check them, the porters abandoned their loads and fled into the jungle.

During the pursuit, police fired three warning shots into the air and managed to apprehend 43-year-old Hari Kumar Rai from Dhankuta. They also confiscated nine plastic bags containing a total of 230 kg of marijuana, out of which 225 kg was without plastic packaging, according to Police Inspector Diwas Kunwar of the Area Police Office Dharan.

The arrested individual is currently in police custody for further investigation, while efforts are underway to locate the absconding suspects.
