Khajura (Banke), March 1: Nepali Congress (NC) general secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa said the incumbent was focused on implementing the constitution.
At the Lumbini province level interaction entitled 'Constitution Amendment: Need and Challenge' organized here today by NC Department of Professionals and Intellectuals and Democratic Lawyers' Association, he further said the coalition government of the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) was concentrated on empowering the people through the implementation of the constitution.
There was discomfort in the course of execution due to some policies and rules with the promulgation of the constitution, he said the main law of the land would be amended in a timely manner on the basis of consensus and cooperation.
He stressed the need for wider discussions on the electoral system, federalism and authorities of the provinces while amending the constitution.
Thapa said, "The need of the hour is to make laws in consistence with the constitution. Those laws have to be made very quickly; some laws have to be repealed, and some laws are not compatible with our Constitution. All these issues will be resolved on the basis of consensus".
NC has to play a parental role in the constitution amendment as the constitution has been formulated and implemented with the conclusion of the peace process under the leadership of the NC, he said, adding NC would move ahead by incorporating all the parties while amending the constitution.
Department coordinator and NC central member Dr Dila Sangraula presided over the interaction.
On the occasion, constitutional expert Kashiraj Dahal said that suggestions have been received from the citizen level to amend the constitution by reviewing the electoral system, inclusion and provincial structure and reviewing the works.(RSS)
