Kathmandu, Feb 28: Vice Chairman of the Nepal Sanskrit University, Prof Dr Dhaneshwor Nepal, has said the Sanskrit culture faced attacks after study of Sanskrit was removed from school education.
During a programme organized at Pashupati area on 'gurukul interschool elocution relating to devotional path in Vedic literature' on Friday, Vice Chancellor Dr Nepal said the major provenance of culture is Sanskrit language. Once the origin is damaged, its sects and branches are facing continuous attacks, he argued.
The Vice Chancellor distributed certificates to the winners of the elocution.
He further said the number of students in university was also declining in the Sanskrit University after phasing out proficiency certificate level. The Sanskrit University was for adopting and promoting the gurukul system, according to him.
The Sanskrit subjects like Ayurved, yog, naturopathy, vastu and karmakanda would be promoted by the university, he added.
Bijay Timalsina from the Sanskrit Secondary School, Ranipokhari become first in the competition, while Hemanta Bhatta from the same school stood second and Nawin Regmi from the Kantibharav Gurukul of Gokarna the third. Those receiving consolation prize were Pranav Dhungel from Naimisharanya Gurukul of Kavre and Ashish Ramtel from Jagadguru Gurukul of Sankhamul.
The first one received Rs 10,000 cash prize, while second Rs 7,000; and third Rs 5,000. Rs 3,00o was provided each to the consolation prize winners.(RSS)
