Kathmandu, Feb 21: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has madePrime Minister KP Sharma Oli has made it clear that government always protects citizen's right to freedom of expression.
While launching a book named 'ByaktitwaYogdan' based on the biography of a businessman and social worker Rajesh Kaji Shrestha on Friday, PM Oli reminded that some friends who had involved in drafting the bill in the past have started protesting against the Social Media Bill these days. "TikTok was banned in the past and we lifted the ban," he said, adding that the political party, which banned the social sites, is now talking for freedom of speech.
"Activities waged in the name of freedoms but disturbing peace and social harmony and against country are unacceptable," the PM stressed. It is wrong to provoke people and speak baseless things, he added.
According to him, while exercising one's rights, others' rights must not be breached.
In response to the false allegation on him that he stashed money in a Swiss bank, PM Oli viewed, "Why do I want that much property? No luxury, but a little food is enough for me. I have no reason at all to hide property. My life is open and transparent."
He further said it is not our culture to make such a commotion, create confusion, and badmouth.
The PM argued the country could be led to prosperity only through good governance, for which the present government was making laws and taking forward the development works in a speedy manner.
The Head of the government expressed confidence that the book written about life story of Shrestha, a leading businessman who made a significant contribution to the institutional development of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, would be inspiring for the new generation.
