Kathmandu, Feb 19: President Ramchandra Paudel has expressed confidence that democracy will strengthen broader national unity along with social justice, equality, social goodwill and prosperity.
In a message today on the occasion of the National Democracy Day 2081 BS, the President has said this day has established the notion that people are the overall source of state power.
This day is prideful and memorable moment in Nepal's history since it established the idea of people holding the nation's sovereignty from their struggles and sacrifices of the martyrs, the President has stated in his message.
The President has further mentioned that the federal democratic republic was a great achievement obtained from more than seven decades' struggle. "We have become successful to establish federal democratic republic at the foundation of revolution of 2007 BS."
Likewise, President Paudel has recalled that the Constitution of Nepal setting a goal to build a socialism-oriented economy based on justice and equality while embracing federal democratic republic.
President Paudel has expressed his belief that a pleasant journey has begun on the foundation of the achievements. He has expected that may this day inspire all institutions of people's representatives, political parties and the state's bodies to implement the constitutional norms and values.
'Alliance between political and economic democracy needed'
Similarly, Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav has said that institutionalizing federal democratic republic, inclusion, secularism, rule of law, sovereignty and equality was the need of the hour.
In his message today on the occasion of National Democracy Day 2081 BS, the Vice President said we have no option but to move ahead by ending poverty, discrimination, poor education and unemployment to make federal democratic republic a success.
"Democracy should not be merely confined to as the form of governance. Democracy should be focused on making social ideals, characteristics, traditions, culture, goodwill and values long-lasting," Vice President Yadav added.
In a democracy, no one is specially privileged class and no one will be discriminated on the basis of one's belonging to a certain caste, religion, race, sex and others, according to the Vice President.
He also viewed that alliance between political democracy and economic democracy was imperative to sustain it.(RSS)
