‘Women First’ rally held in Jaleshwar

By Mahesh Kumar Das,Jaleshwar, Feb. 17: Women’s rights activists in Jaleshwar, Mahottari, organised a rally on Sunday under the slogan ‘Women First’ for the 2027 general elections.

The rally begun from the Education Development and Coordination Unit Office in Jaleshwar, with the aim of increasing women’s representation in the upcoming elections under the ‘Women First’ campaign.

Participants chanted slogans such as “End child marriage,” “End the dowry system,” and “Ensure women’s rights” while marching through various parts of the city. The rally concluded at Mahendra Chowk with a corner meeting.

Speaking at the event, Jaleshwar Municipality Mayor Suresh Sah Sonar emphasised the need for women to empower themselves to claim their rights. He stressed that women should demand their rights at the right time.

Similarly, Jaleshwar Municipality Deputy Mayor Roshan Khatun highlighted the importance of education in securing women’s rights. 

She urged women to prioritise education for their children to ensure their empowerment.

The rally was part of the nationwide feminist campaign, ‘Anupam Abhiyan,’ organised by the Inter-Generational Feminist Forum (IGFF). 

According to campaign member and women’s rights activist Rita Sah, the initiative aimed to engage female activists from Mahottari in promoting gender equality.

Sah stated that the primary objective of the campaign is to contribute to the establishment of a just and equitable society. Launched in 2023, the campaign will run until 2027, to foster an inclusive and fair society.

She further highlighted the need for the mandatory inclusion of women.
