Kathmandu, Feb 9: In preparation for the National Democracy Day celebrations of 2081 BS, a main celebration committee has been formed under the leadership of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting held today at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, which approved the proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
To ensure the success of the celebrations, various subcommittees have also been established.
The main committee includes the deputy prime ministers, ministers, state ministers, the mayors of Kathmandu and Lalitpur, the chief secretary, chief of the army staff, government secretaries, special-class secretaries, and the chiefs of the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and the National Investigation Department, along with local-level mayors within the Kathmandu Valley.
The National Democracy Day celebrations will be held in all provinces, where provincial-level committees will be formed under the leadership of the respective Chief Ministers.
The Day, which marks the restoration of democracy on Fagun 7, 2007 BS (February 18, 1951), will be celebrated for three days, starting February 17 this year, both within the country and at the Nepali diplomatic missions abroad. Nepali embassies, diplomatic missions, and consular offices will carry out an 'illumination programme' in the evening and night.
The main celebration within the country will be held at the Nepali Army pavilion at Tundikhel on February 18.
Prime Minister Oli stressed the importance of celebrating the Day at the citizen level as well, not just through official events.
He highlighted that the Day is a historic milestone, commemorating the defeat of suppression and exploitation, as well as the victory over anarchy and regression in the country, all achieved through the people's struggle and sacrifices. "This Day marks a significant accomplishment for the nation and should be celebrated with great enthusiasm by the citizens too," he stated. (RSS)
