Dang, Feb 8: Former prime minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said Tharu art, skills and culture must be preserved and promoted.
Inaugurating the inter-province cultural conference, NC President Deuba argued although the Tharu community is rich in art and culture, its promotion is slow. Young generation needs to pay heed to this, he added.
The Tharu community is still deprived of education, he said, urging the community leaders to realize this and forward works accordingly. According to him, it is essential to expand Tarigaon runway for development of Dang.
On the occasion, Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Chetnarayan Acharya, however, said province government was committed to preserving and promoting art, culture and skills of indigenous Tharu community. He urged all concerned to link indigenous skills to income.
Similarly, Chairman of Matawa Barghar Bhalmansa, and former Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary, urged the government to bring Barghar Bhalmansa Act. Barghar is a leadership practice in indigenous Chaudhary community. He stressed that Barghar is a beautiful aspect of democracy.
Mathawa Association's Chair in Dang district, Chandra Prakash Chaudhary also underlined the need for all three-tier of government to work for the conservation of indigenous culture and practices.(RSS)
