Education, pillar of nation-building: Former President Bhandari

Kathmandu, Feb 7: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that education should be the pillar of nation-building and development.     

Speaking at a programme organized to mark the 60th anniversary (diamond jubilee) of 'Arunodaya Secondary School' here today, she mentioned that future education must be aimed at economically enriching the nation.     

“It is essential to connect education with the country's development and national needs; education must be made the pillar of national development,” said former President Bhandari.     

“The government is stable, and in this time, it is necessary to bring about a fundamental change in the education system so that it can provide employment to the youth struggling to find jobs.”     

She emphasized that Nepali education should maximize the use of local resources and implement more information technology in education to link it to production.     

Former President Bhandari spoke about the difficulties facing in the retention of younger generation in the country, noting that schools, once bustling in the past, are now observed to be deserted.     

“Times have changed, internal migration is increasing, and the advancement of information technology has grown. Considering all this, the education system needs to be improved,” former head of the state said.     

During the event, Arunodaya Secondary School honored various individuals who have served the nation in different capacities, including Lokraj Parajuli, Secretary of the Government of Nepal; Deepak Adhikari, former Nepali ambassador to France; former Additional Inspector General Bhim Prasad Dhakal; and Deputy Secretary Yogesh Parajuli, with the Arunodaya Pride Award.     

Bhandari also inaugurated the Arunodaya Souvenir 2081 BS. School Head Master Madhav Prasad Parajuli had briefed about the activities of the school.(RSS)
