Communication Minister vows to establish IT Park this year

Communications Prithvi Subba Gurung inaugurating the 30th CAN Infotech-2025

Kathmandu, Feb 6: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has committed to establishing an IT Park in Kathmandu by this year adding that IT infrastructures were needed to materialize the goals of Digital Nepal Framework.     

Inaugurating the 30th CAN Infotech-2025 in Kathmandu organized by Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation) on Thursday, the government spokesperson said that sufficient IT infrastructures should be prepared for implementing Digital Nepal Framework.     

"IT infrastructures should be created to meet the goal of Digital Nepal Framework. We will establish an IT Park in Kathmandu this year at any cost," he promised.     

Minister Gurung stated that lack of an IT Park was an indication of lagging behind in technical field and shared that he was proactive to build IT-related infrastructure, IT Policy, AI Policy and other physical and legal instruments.     

Likewise, the Communications and Information Technology Minister said that 4G service wold be expanded in all 753 local levels and 5G service would be started in the Kathmandu Valley within this year.     

Stating that Nepal was behind in the SAARC level in formulating its AI Policy, Gurung viewed that Nepal will lag behind if maximum use of IT was not prioritized.     

During the event, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's message of best wishes was presented through video.     

In his message, PM Oli expressed the confidence that the new ordinance unveiled by the government has created conducive environment to run IT industries even in foreign countries and that has created new hopes for creating youth employment.     

Likewise, PM Oli stated that Digital Framework Nepal could be made meaningful through partnership between the government and private sector.(RSS)
