ISLAMABAD, Feb 4 : Pakistan's raw food exports increased by 13.83 percent in the first half of the fiscal year 2024-25 (July 2024 to June 2025), according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The PBS data, published on its website on Monday, showed that exports rose to 3.96 billion U.S. dollars, compared to 3.48 billion dollars in the same period a year ago, largely driven by rice exports.

Rice recorded a 14.5 percent year-on-year increase in value during the period, reaching 1.87 billion dollars, with total exports rising to 3.5 million tonnes.

The opening of new markets, including Bangladesh, along with sustained demand from the European Union and Britain, significantly contributed to this growth, the PBS added.

The report also highlighted other food exports, noting that sugar exports surged to 632,804 tonnes in July-December 2024, up from 33,101 tonnes in the same period of the previous year.

Meanwhile, vegetable exports, including onions, recorded a 1.71 percent increase, while fish and fish product exports posted a marginal growth of 1.47 percent, according to the PBS. (Xinhua)
