Kathmandu, Feb 3: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has stated that the fundamental rights envisaged in the constitution have ensured the rights of indigenous nationalities.
At a programme organized on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Indigenous Nationalities Commission on Monday, Speaker Ghimire pointed out the need for campaigns for the effective implementation of fundamental rights as provided by the Constitution.
Stating that Nepal is culturally and traditionally a rich country due to ethnic groups, Ghimire said that the constitution has made provisions for inclusion to bring those marginalized communities into policy-making positions for their further development.
He also said that time has come to review the performances of such commissions and suggested the Commission to make plans for future priorities.
The Speaker viewed that the recent increase in the population of ethnic groups is due to the recognition of communities that were previously unidentified.
Commission's Chair Ram Bahadur Thapa Magar said that the indigenous communities were rich in their languages and cultures adding that every community has its typical knowledge and skill.(RSS)
