Lamjung, Feb 3: Minister for
Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said that
modernization in agriculture is essential for the development of the
villages.
While inaugurating the boring
irrigation system at Simalchaur in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-8, Lamjung,
Minister Gurung urged the locals to focus on farming and production.
Minister Gurung argued that
building infrastructure is the government's responsibility while carrying out
development activities is the people's duty. He expressed the commitment to
bring telephone and internet to every household in Lamjung in the current
fiscal year.
Urging the full utilization of
irrigation after it comes into operation, Minister Gurung, who is also the
government spokesperson, informed that the current government has been taking
numerous steps for the welfare of the people.
He further urged people not to
worry about the longevity of the government as two major parties have formed a
coalition to improve the worsened situation in the country.
Commenting that past governments
have created instability in the country, Minister Gurung said, "Due to
political instability, each government brought its own budget. Revenue was not
properly collected, and expenditures could not be made. The current government
is working to solve all these issues."
He stated that the situation of
having to rely on monsoon rain for farming will be resolved with the
introduction of ground water irrigation.
Addressing the same event, Ward 8
Chairman Dhansingh Tamang expressed the confidence that farming would become
easier once the borehole irrigation facility is in operation, mentioning that
many fields have remained uncultivated due to water scarcity in the past.
Local consumer Panchakali Gurung
expressed the belief that the borehole would be instrumental in the irrigation
for farmers in Simalchaur village. With the operation of the borehole, more
than 150 households will gain the facility to farm. (RSS)
