Kathmandu, Jan 28: Tributes have been paid to martyrs Ganga Lal Shrestha and Dashrath Chand today as part of commemoration of the Martyrs Week.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City
(KMC) organized a memorial assembly at local Shiva Bhagawati where Shrestha and
Chand attained martyrdom.
Tributes were paid to the two
martyrs offering bouquets to their statues on the occasion.
The then Rana regime handed capital
punishment to Shrestha and Chand on the charge of carrying out various
activities the regime and for sedition, and ordered them shot dead at Shova
Bhagawati. Shrestha and Chand attained martyrdom on Magh 15, 1997 BS.
Addressing the condolence assembly,
KMC Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol said that all should emulate the ideals of
integrity and sacrifice shown by the martyrs.

Dangol, said the sacrifice of the martyrs for developing the democratic system
in the country is inspiring for the new generation. He said the dreams of the
martyrs would be fulfilled only if the people were made happy and
prosperous.

Shrestha opined that the departed soul of the martyrs would get peace if the
nation is run as per the democratic system by institutionalizing the civic
rights.
KMC staffs, local residents,
philanthropists, educationalists and people from various walks of life were
present on the occasion.
The Martyrs Week is observed every
year from Magh 10 to 16 as per the Nepali calendar. (RSS)
