By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 24: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that the local bodies that are the pillars of the constitution and the democratic governance system should work towards keeping people and development a priority.
President Paudel expressed this view during a meeting with the chief and deputy chief of the District Coordination Committee and the office bearers of the District Coordination Committee Federation Nepal at the President's Office, Sheetal Niwas, on Thursday.
"Despite various difficulties, the three levels of government, the private sector and the non-governmental sector are continuing to fulfil their responsibility by coordinating and monitoring their work. I feel that these bodies are the backbone of the constitution. The democratic governance system should move forward by keeping the people and development as a priority," he said.
President Paudel urged the government to increase its role and activity in monitoring and coordinating if the work was done according to the budget, plan, and mandate. "If we increase our activity by being a little more vigilant and aware about whether the work is being done according to the plan, process, and mandate in villages, towns, and wards, development work progress, budget misuse will stop and the attention of the government would also increase, which will contribute to the development of the nation," said President Paudel.
He also urged the heads and deputy heads of the coordination committees to increase their effectiveness by being proactive and aware of their roles.
President Paudel mentioned that the District Coordination Committee was established with the important responsibilities of monitoring the maintaining coordination between rural municipalities and municipalities to maintain balance in development-related work.
President Paudel also expressed his best wishes for the success of the 30th Foundation Day programme of the Federation.
