Kathmandu, Jan 23: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that the bodies remaining as the backbone of the Constitution and the democratic governance system should carry out works keeping the people and development in the centre.
The Head of State said this during
a meeting with the Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs of the District Coordination
Committee (DCC) and the office-bearers of the Association of District
Coordination Committees of Nepal at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Shital Niwas,
today.
On the occasion, President Paudel
said, "Despite various difficulties, you have been performing important
responsibilities such as coordinating and monitoring the work of the three
tiers of government, the private sector and non-government sector. I believe
that the bodies that are the backbone of the constitution and democratic
governance system should move forward keeping the people and development at the
centre."
He also urged the DCC Chiefs and
Deputy Chiefs and the Association office-bearers to draw the attention of the
State by increasing their role and activism in monitoring and coordinating
whether the works have been carried out as per the budget, plan and the terms
of reference.
"Development works will also
move forward and the budget will be properly utilized if we increase the
activity by being a little conscious and aware about whether the work has been
done according to the plan, process and terms of reference in the village, town
and wards. It contributes to the development of the nation,” the President
suggested.
He also urged the chiefs and deputy
chiefs of the coordination committees to increase their effectiveness by being
proactive and aware of their role.
Noting that the constitution
provides for federal, provincial and local governments, President Paudel said
that the provision of district coordination committee has been made with the
important responsibility of monitoring and maintaining coordination and balance
between the rural municipalities and municipalities in development works.
The President also on the occasion
extended best wishes for the success of the 30th foundation day programme of
the Association. (RSS)
