Kathmandu, Jan 23: The Martyrs' Week has begun today in memory of the martyrs who laid down their lives for the establishment of democracy in the country.
Martyrs' Week is celebrated every
year in coordination with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). Deputy Mayor
of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol, office-bearers of Kathmandu
Metropolitan City and locals paid floral tributes to Shukraraj Shastri at his
statue at Teku on the first day of martyrs' week today.
Shukraraj Shastri, who was born in
Vanaras in 1950 BS, was active in the awareness campaign against the Rana
oligarchy through religious activities.
He was arrested from Indrachowk of
Kathmandu and kept in jail. The Rana government had hung at Teku Pachli in 1997
BS Magh 10.
The then Kathmandu Nagar Panchayat
had preserved the place where the commemorative programme was held today by
placing an inscription in 2035. (RSS)
