blog

By Gun Bahadur Rokka,Sulikot, Jan. 21Gorkha Municipality has begun creating murals reflecting the history of Gorkha at the bus park in Gorkha Municipality-6 to celebrate Tourism Year 2025.

The murals are being painted on the wall from the bus park to BP Chowk near the Gorkha district headquarters.

Mayor Krishna Bahadur Rana Magar informed that the municipality recently unveiled its schedule for Gorkha Tourism Year 2025, focusing on developing historical, religious, and archaeological sites within Gorkha Municipality into tourist destinations. These murals are part of the effort to attract tourists.

According to the mayor, murals depicting the natural, religious, and cultural heritage of Gorkha will be created at various junctions and walls along the route from Aanbukhaireni to the Gorkha district headquarters.

The municipality has also deployed tourist guides to promote local destinations. “Those interested in learning about the history of Gorkha can get detailed information from these guides,” Mayor Rana said.

The municipality expressed sadness that Gorkha’s history has not been sufficiently discussed, despite its significance in Nepal’s history.

It noted that Gorkha is the birthplace of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified the Baise and Chaubise principalities to create a single nation. To highlight this legacy, Gorkha Tourism Year 2025 has been declared.

The municipality further stated that due to a lack of promotion, both domestic and international tourists have not visited Gorkha in significant numbers.

To address this, it has launched an extensive tourism promotion programme.
