Kathmandu, Jan 17: The Public Health Office, Kathmandu, has instructed all concerned not to sell and distribute any product that substitutes breast milk.

The Office called for a halt in such activities as various products to replace breast milk being sold and distributed in the market.

Public Health Officer of the Office, Anita Khanal said such a directive was issued to stop the sale and distribution of such products after different diets and foods to replace breast milk were found sold and supplied in the market.

Khanal mentioned that any diet, food and milk product found in the market could not be the alternative to breast milk as it contains all types of nutrients needed for babies and is the best diet for increasing immunity power.

The Office requested all to abide by the Mother’s Milk Substitutes (Control of Sale and Distribution) Act, 2049(1992) and Regulations, 2051, as well as to promote the health rights of mothers and babies. (RSS)
