Limi cut off after snowfall

blog

By Our Correspondent,Humla, Jan. 7: The Himalayan village of Limi, located in Namkha Rural Municipality-6, Humla, has been cut off from road access after excessive snowfall blocked the roads.

Recent snowfall has blocked two routes-- Limi-Nara Pass and Nyalu Pass--leaving the village isolated.

Ward Chairperson Paljor Tamang said that Limi has been naturally isolated. He said that the snowfall has disrupted transportation through the roads that pass through Nara Pass, which stands at an altitude of 4,600 metres and Nyalu Pass, at 5,000 metres above sea level.

“As a result, there is no way for people to enter or leave Limi at this time,” Chairperson Tamang said.

Tamang himself was preparing to travel to the district headquarters in Simikot, but had to stay in Limi due to the situation. He said that two to three feet of snow had accumulated in both passes, making travel to Limi impossible.

If the snowfall continues, it may not be possible to access Limi until mid-April. The roads blocked by snow can only be reopened if the snow is cleared using machinery. Currently, if anyone falls ill in Limi, the only option will be to charter a helicopter for emergency evacuation.
