By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jan 6: Chaku, a dish made from concentrated sugarcane juice, jaggery, ghee, and nuts, is being prepared these days targeting the upcoming Maghe Sankranti on January 14.
Newar communities in the Tokha have been preparing Chaku for a long time. Recently Chaku has been preparing from 14 Chaku industries.
According to the Chaku industry operators, the Tokha word is derived from the Newari word Tunkhya means Sugarcane farm.
"But these days we are compelled to prepare Chaku brought sugarcane from India" Chaku industry operator Buddha Shrestha said.
