By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec 26: The number of languages of the nation used in presenting news items in the Gorkhapatra daily has reached 45.
With the commencement of a separate page of Vambule Rai language, the
number of national languages used in the nation's first daily has reached 45
today.
Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba
Gurung, made public the separate page of Vambule Rai language in Gorkhapatra
amidst a special function at the Ministry today.
With the Interim Constitution of Nepal 2007 recognizing mother tongues in Nepal as languages of the nation, a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Gorkhapatra Corporation had on 20 July 2007 decided to publish multi-language page in the section of Naya Nepal. In the initial phase, six languages- Tamang, Maithili, Limbu, Gurung, Rai and Nepal (Newar)- were included in the Naya Nepal page.
With today published page of Vambule Rai language, the number has
reached 45 that include Tamang, Maithili, Limbu, Gurung, Rai and Nepal (Newar),
Urdu, Tharu, Bhojpuri, Sherpa, Jirel, Thami, Kisan, Tajpuriya, Bahing Rai,
Vantawa Rai, Awadhi, Sunuwar, Magar, Dhimal, Bajjika, Kumal, Magahi, Baram,
Sanskrit, Uranw, Majhi, Mugal, Achhami, Dotyali, Darai, Meche, Jumli, Chepang,
Marwadi, Lhomi, Rajbanshi, Danuwar, Bajhangi, Hyalmo, Yakkha, Dadeldhureli,
Nepal Bhote, Rana Tharu and Vambule Rai.
