Paddy production down in Bagmati province

Bagmati, Dec 22: Paddy production has dropped in the Bagmati province this year. According to the Bagmati Province Agriculture Development Directorate, paddy production has decreased by 1.37 per cent due to floods and landslides triggered by the rain on last September 27-28.    


In the current fiscal year, paddy plantation was done in 105,415 hectares of land in Bagmati Province where 408,316 metric tons have been produced at the rate of 3.87 metric tons per hectare, according to Nabin Kunwar, agriculture economist at the Directorate.    


In the previous fiscal year 2080/81 BS, paddy was cultivated in 109,151 hectares of land where 413,988 metric tons were produced. According to Kunwar, paddy production has increased in Chitwan, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Nuwakot this year as compared to last year.    


Chitwan, the largest paddy growing zone in Bagmati province, has produced 98,355 metric tons of paddy at the rate of 4.15 metric tons per hectare in 23,700 hectares this year.(RSS)
