Kathmandu, Nov 17: Altogether 407 candidates have filed their candidacies for the by-election to fill up various 42 vacant posts at local levels. The by-election is slated on December 1.
According to the Election Commission, 84 candidates registered their nominations for eight vacant seats of chairperson and vice-chairperson of rural municipality as well as for mayor and deputy mayor post.
Among them, 35 are women, 48 men and one candidate is registered as others. The nomination filing took place between 10 am to 5 pm today.
As per the lists of candidates published by the Commission between 5 pm to 6 pm on Sunday itself, a total of 323 candidates have been nominated for 34 vacant posts for ward Chairpersons in rural municipality and municipality.
Among the, 29 were women, 293 were men and one identified as others, said Neeta Pokharel Aryal, Spokesperson of the Commission.
Dhanusha district has witnessed highest nominations- 21 while Rukum Purba and Bajhang districts saw the lowest nominations- 3 each.
For the ward chairperson post of ward no 1 in Dhanushadham municipality, 21 candidates have filed their candidacies while 3 each candidates have been nominated for ward chairperson post for Putha Uttarganga rural municipality ward no 2 in Rukum Purba and Surma rural municipality ward no 4 in Bajhang district.
Commission's Spokesperson Pokharel said that the nomination registration was carried out peacefully and enthusiastically at respective election officer's offices in the concerned local levels.
Following the nomination process, complaints against candidates, if any, could be filed between 10 am to 3 pm on Monday, added Pokharel.(RSS)
